Drum Sheet Music for “Walking on the Moon” by The Police
Notes From John, Head Transcriber
Drums – Stewart Copeland’s drumming is very dynamic, as per usual, especially the hi-hat. There are many different levels of open-ness he uses, which made it challenging to notate. Also, where he accents and how much. In general, in accented hits, the hi-hat is a little more open than normal hits. Also, the half-open accent hits are a little more accented than the others. Also during the “hi-hat a little loose” sections, the half-open hits are a little more open than the other sections. It’s probably more of a quarter open in the tight sections and half open in the looser sections. There always seems so be a little sizzle in the extended hi-hats, so I rarely did completely open. It’s all pretty subjective, and good reason to listen to the recording as well.To give it the ‘dub’ feel, the drum kit is put through a quarter note triplet delay (same as the sustain guitar) for sections of the song. I indicated where the delay is turned on and off, in case there is a way to do that per electronic kit or sound engineer, etc.Measure 41 – there is that sound on the & of 3. That’s actually the delay of the cross-stick on 3, which was muted out in the mix (I transcribed from an isolated drum track). They obviously had some fun in the studio with the faders and buttons.”
