Description
Notes From John
BPM = 147, in 4/4. The drums start with Verse 1 on the first bar: quarter-note cymbals over the snare on two and four and a kick figure in eighths, written in places as two-bar repeats. Verse 1 closes on an accented sixteenth-note fill from the snare down the toms. The Interlude and the Re-Intros keep that groove. The Chorus at 0:59 opens on a crash and adds a sixteenth fill with the sticking printed above it and bracketed snare notes inside it, followed by a bar of snare sixteenths over hat-foot quarters. The Solo keeps the verse groove, and the Interlude after the second Chorus opens on another sticking-marked fill. The Bridge moves to crash quarters with a triplet figure, then the drums rest before coming back on printed “stick clicks”. The Outro at 3:52 returns to the groove and ends on a fill, a crash and the kick. The section boxes carry the record’s timestamps.
For the player
Kevin Parker plays all the instruments on this track, drums included, per the song and album Personnel. Don’t drag the fills: many phrases end on sixteenth-note fills at this tempo, and the Chorus fills print their sticking. Come back in on the “stick clicks” after the rest before the Outro. At BPM = 147 the job is the feel.
