Description
Notes From John
BPM = 75, in 4/4 with bars of 6/4 and 3/4. The Intro is marked p: rests and two single notes, then a bar of cymbal notes with printed R/L sticking under a crescendo hairpin. Verse 1 is marked mf, with hat-foot notes, bracketed notes and a sparse kick, and closes on a short tom figure with sticking. Verse 2 moves to hat eighths and sixteenths with cross-stick notes and spaced kick notes, closing on an f bar with grace notes and sticking. The Choruses put the snare on two and four under hat eighths and sixteenths with open-hat notes, and the second Chorus is longer than the first. Verse 3 keeps a snare groove, Verse 4 returns to mf hat-foot writing, and an f bar of grace-note fills leads to the last Chorus. The Outro is marked “rit.” and ends on a tied tremolo note.
For the player
Crescendo through the Intro’s sticking bar from p to mf, as the hairpin marks it, and count the 6/4 and 3/4 bars as written. Play the Verse 2 groove on the cross-stick and the Choruses on the snare, as the chart marks them. At BPM = 75 the job is the feel.
