Description

Notes From John

BPM = 167, in 4/4. The drums rest through the Intro and most of Alt Verse 1 under “All my life…”, and come in on its last beat. The Interlude at 0:34 hits ff, marked “hi-hats loose”, with flams and bracketed snare notes. Verse 1 under “Come down, don’t…” drops to f, marked “hi-hats normal”, with circle marks, and closes on an accented snare at ff. The Choruses under “Hey, don’t let…” put crashes over the kick and snare, and each ends on a “hi-hats loose” passage. Verse 2 is f and “hi-hats normal” again. After the eight-bar Re-Intro rest, Alt Verse 2 drops to mf with “muted cowbell”, then comes back at f with “hi-hats normal” under “All night long…”. The first Bridge under “And I’m done…” ends under a crescendo hairpin with circle marks, and the Instrumental at 3:26 is ff, “hi-hats loose”. The Outro under “Done, done, on…” ends on a short hit, then rests. The section boxes carry the record’s timestamps.

For the player

Taylor Hawkins plays drums on the track. Mute the cowbell for Alt Verse 2, as printed. At BPM = 167 the job is the feel.
