Description
Notes From John
BPM = 122. Hi-hats loose are marked. Lots of tom work. Watch bars 104–105 — 2 against 3.
For the player
Neil Sanderson on the One-X cut. Sit in the pocket under that guitar; don’t iron the loose hats into a click. Hi-hats loose are written in the Bridge and the Outro — leave them sloshy. Hi-hats normal come back in the Interlude; loosen into the last Chorus where John marked the open. Busy, syncopated kick under the hands in the verses and choruses; Bridge flips to four-on-the-floor under those loose eighths. Lots of tom work and triplet fills between sections — play them as written, don’t invent a second fill. Bars 104–105 are 2 in the hands against 3 in the feet — that’s a feel thing; listen to the record until the limbs lock. Outro hits at 3:10. Listen first; the pocket is the job, not the count-in.
