Description

Notes From John

BPM = 137, in 4/4, on a grand staff with chord names, marked “electric piano (both hands)” at the first entry. After the fermata bar for “All aboard!…”, the left hand plays eighth-note pairs at the chord changes under an 8vb line while the right hand rests. At Guitar In the right hand takes up the eighth-note riff in the bass clef over F#5, A, E and D, closing on D5 and E5 chords. The Verses set right-hand chord stabs over E/A and D/A, many of them off the beat and tied, against left-hand eighths on A, and a fast run of eight notes falls into the Verses. The Choruses move to tied right-hand chords over an 8vb bass line on F#5, D5, A and E, and the right hand climbs to a high E in the last Chorus. The Bridge at 2:30 and the Outro are power-chord stabs in both hands on F#5, A5, E5 and D5. The Solo gives the right hand whole- and half-note chords down the changes from F#m, over left-hand quarters. The last chord is F#5 under a fermata. The section boxes carry the record’s timestamps.

For the player

John’s chart follows the 1980 Blizzard of Ozz album version and puts the part in both hands. Keep the left hand low: the 8vb lines run under the Intro, the Choruses, the Bridge, the Solo and the Outro. Take the right-hand riff at Guitar In and the 3:12 Re-Intro as written, and play the runs into the Verses as printed. At BPM = 137 the job is the feel.
