Description
Notes From John
Very intricate part from Matt Cameron. I found a filtered-out drum mix of this which reveals all the ghost notes, which I included. Not all of them can be heard in the full production, but they add something that makes the beat groove more.
For the player
This one starts with Matt Cameron — literally. The groove began as a studio warm-up beat; the band caught it, looped it, and built the song around the rhythm. That’s why the chart feels intricate for a hard-rock single: John transcribed from a filtered drum mix so the ghost notes between the backbeats are on the page even when the full mix buries them. Play those soft notes. They’re what make the pocket sit. Watch the bridge accents and the snare drum break into the solo; use the recording for dynamics. This is a strong studio guide — listen hard, and let the ghosts do their job.
