Description
Notes From John
BPM = 115. Eerie flute eighths over a string pad open the chart, then staccato B, A, E stabs set up the riff. The choruses add trilled synth lines over held pads. The riff and stabs repeat to the end.
For the player
Martin Page is credited on keyboards and atmospheric synth effects on the 1984 record, alongside Ray Parker Jr.’s own synths and sequencer. John left the sustained string synth out of this chart and moved some keyboard lines to the lead guitar part. Keep the left-hand stabs short and dry, and stay under the vocal in the verses, where only the stabs are left. John labels each part with its sound, so set up separate patches for flute, pad, chorusy synth and bell if you can, and on a single keyboard skip the bracketed notes. At BPM = 115 the job is the feel.
