Description
Notes From John
BPM = 115. A distorted slide up the neck and back opens the chart, then eighth-note hammer-on and pull-off trills over B. Muted B5, A5, E5 chugs drive the verses and outro, and the bridge holds ringing dyads.
For the player
Brian Fairweather is credited with rhythm guitar on the 1984 record, and John says this part follows the recording closely. Use a real distortion sound here, heavier than the lead part’s overdrive. Hit it cold when the trill stops and the chugs come in loud with no lead-in. Keep the muted strokes tight and even so this part and the keyboard stabs hold the rhythm together. At BPM = 115 the job is the feel.
