Description

Notes From John

BPM = 112. Swung. Most of the verse and chorus is roots and fifths with rests in between. The key drops a half step, from G to F sharp, for the second verse and chorus, then climbs back to G for the solo and stays there. Both bridges walk up the neck in eighth notes. The last bar lands on a low G.

For the player

The 1951 RCA single with the Fontane Sisters. The space is the point, so keep the short notes short. The drop to F sharp is the trap, so know where it lives before you get there. The bridge runs need clean eighths. Ride the downbeat. At BPM = 112 the job is the feel.
