Description
Notes From John
Tab only, 4/4 at BPM = 146, with swing eighths marked. The guitar rests through the intro and Verse 1 and comes in at the 0:21 pre-chorus, marked clean and mf, with B♭ and E♭m chords left to ring (“let ring”) and single strums on A♭m, A♭ and D♭. It also rests for the first eight bars of the 0:34 chorus. From there the part is mostly short barre-chord stabs, an eighth-note chord on the beat with an eighth rest after it, on G♭, E♭m, A♭m(7) and D♭, with a diminished passing chord and Bm in the chorus turnarounds. Down strokes are marked at the start of most sections, and the 1:17 pre-chorus opens on a rolled B♭ chord with an up stroke. The 2:10 chorus is eight more bars of rest, and the outro at 3:02 stays on the stabs to the end.
For the player
Most of this part is waiting, then coming in on a full chord. Count the rests through the intro, Verse 1 and the first half of the 0:34 chorus, and hit it cold on the first stab. Keep the stabs short so the eighth rest after each one is clean, and let the pre-chorus chords ring where the chart says to. At BPM = 146 the job is the feel.
