Description
Notes From John
A strum part in tab, 4/4 at BPM = 104, with “Capo 2” printed at the top. The shapes are A, E and D, and the guitar comes in at mf after two beats of rest. The strum is mostly a quarter note followed by eighth-note pairs, with down and up strokes marked over most bars. A rolled up strum, marked “slow strum” the first time and tied into the next beat, comes back through the verses and choruses. The verses move from A to E and then through A, D, A and E, and the choruses stay on A. The last chorus at 2:56 drops to mp, slows (rit.) and ends on one down strum of A under a fermata.
For the player
The part mostly repeats one strum pattern, so keep it even and light. Stay under the vocal, and let the rolled slow strums open up without rushing the next beat. Count the repeat bars in the intro and choruses. At BPM = 104 the job is the feel.
