Description
Notes From John
BPM = 119, in 4/4. The Intro and Verse 1 are written on the toms: floor-tom eighths with a higher tom struck after grace-note flams, over hat-foot quarters, mostly as one bar plus repeats. The Pre-Chorus at 0:40 is marked “accent on snare” and adds accented snare hits to the tom figure. The Chorus is marked “hi-hat or tambourine”, with eighth and quarter notes on top, a snare figure and the kick on each quarter, written in two-bar repeats. Verse 2 adds the kick on the quarters under the tom-and-snare figure, with a “china” hit and sixteenth-note fills at phrase ends. The later Pre-Choruses move to hi-hat sixteenths over the snare on two and four and the kick on the quarters. The Interlude at 2:23 returns to the Verse 2 figure. The last Chorus closes with bars marked “open handed”, with accented cymbal eighths over the toms and snare. The Outro keeps the accents and ends on accented cymbal eighths alone. The section boxes carry the record’s timestamps.
For the player
Start on the toms: the Intro and Verse 1 are a floor-tom and tom figure with grace-note flams over hat-foot quarters, and the snare joins at the Pre-Chorus marked “accent on snare”. The Chorus is marked “hi-hat or tambourine”, so either voice matches the chart there. At BPM = 119 the job is the feel.
