Description

Notes From John

BPM = 138, in 4/4, with a swing marking that sets two eighths to a triplet quarter-eighth. The Intro is three bars of rest and an accented snare-and-tom hit at f on beat four. The Choruses are marked “snares louder on beats, hi-hats loose”: hi-hat on one and three, snare eighth pairs on two and four and kick eighth pairs under them, with triplet snare fills at the phrase ends. The verses are marked “hi-hats normal” and put bracketed snare notes between the hat and the snare, with open-hat circles and triplet kick figures. The Bridge at 0:48 alternates triplet tom bars with the snare groove. The Instrumental at 1:47 is marked “military style” at mf: snare eighths over kick eighth pairs, with two-slash doubles mostly on the ands of two and four, carried into Verse 3 and closed by a bar of accented snare triplets. The last Choruses return to f, and the Outro is a single crash and kick with a breath mark. The section boxes carry the record’s timestamps.

For the player

Tré Cool plays drums on the track. Ghost the bracketed snares: the verses write bracketed snare notes between the main strokes, and the Choruses are marked “snares louder on beats”. The Instrumental is marked “military style”, with the two-slash notes played as doubles. At BPM = 138 the job is the feel.
