Description
Notes From John
Tab only, 4/4 at BPM = 121, with a swing mark (two eighths = a triplet quarter and eighth) and “slight distortion” printed at the start. The intro is a double-stop line into B♭ that ends on an F+ up stroke, then a low single-note figure on B♭6. Verse 1 at 0:13 is short chord stabs on the offbeats over B♭6, E♭9 and F9, mostly marked as up strokes. The 0:44 chorus switches to double-stop lines with slides and held ties over B♭6, E♭, F13 and F7, then three-string chord lines with down strokes marked. Verse 2 at 1:16 has single-note fills marked “let ring”, with slides, before the offbeat stabs come back over B♭, B♭7, E♭ and F7. The 1:48 chorus brings back the double-stop lines and ends with a half-step bend over B♭7 and a let-ring C. From the 2:19 re-intro the chord names move up to C, with the low single-note figure again. Verse 3 at 2:27 is a single-note line over C6, F7, F13 and G, with vibrato over F13. The 2:59 chorus opens with single notes and half-step bends, then offbeat stabs over G and C, and three-string chord lines at the 12th to 16th frets over G and C6. The 3:43 outro is marked rit., with half-step bends, a tremolo C9 chord in “free time”, “wait for drummer’s cue”, and a last accented C.
For the player
This is the lead guitar part from the 2013 Jingle Jangle studio cut. Stay under the vocal: the first two verses are offbeat chord stabs, so keep them short and play them as up strokes where marked. Play the chorus double-stops with the slides and ties as written. In the outro, hold the C9 tremolo and wait for the drummer’s cue before the last C. At BPM = 121 the job is the feel.
