Description

Notes From John

BPM = 157, in 4/4. The Intro is marked p, with accented snare sixteenths, repeat bars and a long crescendo hairpin, then f with a crash and “hi-hats very loose”. Verse 1 is marked “hi-hats tight”, with circle marks over some hat notes, and Verse 2 has printed R L sticking on hat sixteenths. Ahead of the first Chorus, a bar marked mp and “(dynamics are snare only)” has accented snare sixteenths under a crescendo hairpin. The Choruses are marked f, going from “hi-hats tight” to “loosen hi-hat” and “hi-hats very loose”, with grace notes. The Re-Intro has sixteenth-note triplets with printed R L sticking, and Verse 3 has crossed-circle marks over the hats. The Interlude at 2:41 is marked “china”, and the Bridge at 2:48 is marked f, with bracketed snare notes and thirty-second-note kick figures. The last Chorus is marked “slowly loosen hi-hat…”, with eighth-note triplets, and the Outro has repeat bars, then snare sixteenths, many of them bracketed, with accents, hairpins, a tom fill and a closing crash. The section boxes carry the record’s timestamps.

For the player

Adrian Young plays drums on the track. Loosen the hi-hat slowly where the last Chorus prints “slowly loosen hi-hat…”. At BPM = 157 the job is the feel.
