Description

Notes From John

BPM = 115, in 4/4. The Intro is marked mf, with hat eighths and sixteenths over kick figures and crossed-circle marks over some hat notes. Verse 1 starts on that figure with one-bar repeats, then moves to snare and hat eighths with the kick on the quarters, and ends on a circle mark and a snare figure. The first Chorus is marked f and opens on a crash, with kick sixteenth figures, and the second Chorus adds grace notes. The second Chorus ends with a “rit.”, and the chart changes to 6/8 at eighth = 143, with a printed swing marking. The Bridge at 1:45 is marked mp, with dotted-quarter kick notes and repeat bars, and its last 6/8 bar has snare and kick sixteenth figures. A 4/4 bar follows, marked quarter = 115, “end swing” and f, with crossed-circle and circle marks. Verse 3 at 2:15 opens on a crash, then the kick moves to the quarters, with snare sixteenth fills. The Outro opens on a crash, with the kick on many of the quarters, repeat bars and snare sixteenth fills, and ends with a “rit.” and a crash. The section boxes carry the record’s timestamps.

For the player

Gene Chrisman plays drums on the record. Take the Bridge in 6/8 at eighth = 143, and go back to 4/4 at the “end swing” bar. At BPM = 115 the job is the feel.
