Description
Notes From John
Tab only, 3/4 at BPM = 172, with “Capo 2” printed. The chord names are shapes relative to the capo. The strum is mostly two quarter notes and then two eighths to a bar. Strokes are marked on the first G bar of the sections (down, down, then down-up) and on the closing C, D and G of the sections. All ten sections, from the intro to the 1:16 outro, run the same changes: G, C, A or A7, D, B7, Em, then C and D sharing a bar, and a held G. The intro, Verse 1 at 0:18, both interludes (0:35 and 1:00), the 0:51 chorus and Verse 3 at 1:08 use A7. The choruses at 0:09 and 0:26 and Verse 2 at 0:43 use A. The outro uses A and D7, is marked rit., and ends on a held G with down strokes on the last C, D and G.
For the player
This is the strum part from John Denver and the Muppets’ 1979 A Christmas Together. Put the capo on the 2nd fret before you start. Ride the downbeat: in a fast waltz the down stroke on beat one starts the bar, so land it cleanly and keep the two eighths at the end of the bar even. Watch for the bar where C and D share the beats before the held G. At BPM = 172 the job is the feel.
