Description

Notes From John

Four-string ukulele tab, 3/4 at BPM = 172. The chords move one to a bar through G, C, A7 or A, D, B7 and Em. Then C and D split a bar, and a G is held for the full bar. Down and up strokes are marked where the sections open and close. The opening G bar takes down, down, down, up, and the C-to-D bar takes down, up, down on C and a down on D. In between, the rhythm is mostly two quarter notes and a pair of eighths. The intro, Verse 1 at 0:18, both interludes at 0:35 and 1:00, the 0:51 chorus and Verse 3 at 1:08 use A7. The choruses at 0:09 and 0:26, Verse 2 at 0:43 and the 1:16 outro use A. The outro is marked rit., plays its C-to-D bar as straight down strokes, and ends on the held G.

For the player

This is the ukulele part for John Denver and the Muppets’ 1979 A Christmas Together. Ride each gear change: the chord moves on the downbeat of most bars, and the C-to-D bar changes on beat three, so have the D ready. Play the up strokes only where they’re printed, and give the held G that closes the sections its full three beats. Follow the rit. into the final G. At BPM = 172 the job is the feel.
