Description
Notes From John
BPM = 189. Swung. Eight bars of rest, then sleigh bells on every beat with kick on 1 and 3. The verse adds snare on 2 and 4. After the first bridge the kit thins to bells and a lone kick. Short triplet fills tip into the choruses. The bells walk the song out.
For the player
McCartney played this one himself, and it’s built on bells as much as drums. Count the long rest and let the bells set the sparkle before the snare shows up. Keep the fills small and save the big triplet run for the last chorus. Serve the riff, don’t thicken it. At BPM = 189 the job is the feel.
