Notes From John
This is the shared Rhythm/Lead Guitar chart, in tab, 4/4 at BPM = 189 with swung eighths marked. The guitar waits out a seven-bar rest, then comes in with tied single notes at the 14th fret over the chord changes. Verse 1 at 0:20 keeps that sparse line. The choruses, starting at 0:30, use two-note shapes at the 14th and 16th frets marked “let ring”, with a tied double-stop at the 19th fret into the B chord. The bridge at 1:00 is a descending single-note line across B, E and F#. The 1:26 solo moves down to open position for triplet figures. Verses 4 and 5 add two-note shapes, and the 2:42 interlude is a triplet single-note line with grace-note slides. The 3:22 outro moves through Bmaj7, C#m7/B, B, G#m7/B and F#7, then holds a B6/9 and a tied three-note chord at the 16th and 18th frets to the end.
For the player
Paul McCartney played the electric guitars on his 1979 single, and this part spends most of its time high on the neck. Count the seven-bar rest before you come in. In the verses and choruses, stay under the vocal: the lyric cues are printed there, so play the tied notes and let-ring shapes as written and don’t fill the gaps. Keep the triplets in the solo and interlude even against the swing, and hold the last chord through its ties. At BPM = 189 the job is the feel.
