Transcribing Notes From John Neil (Head Transcriber)
A bittersweet (see what I did there?) ‘90s song and production, complete with gated reverb on the drums. Big Head Todd and the Monsters is a 4-piece band, and what they’ve been known to do live as far as instrumentation differs from this recording. I went more for re-creating the recording.
Melody
The tastefully done Todd Park Mohr vocals have a range from D3 to G4.

Keyboard
There is no keyboard part in this recording, so I made up a piano part based on how I would most likely play it.

Lead and Rhythm Guitars
From what I’ve read, the lead guitar part is done by multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Lawton on pedal steel guitar. This is mainly in the choruses, so I had this part also cover rhythm guitar (which there are 2 tracks thereof – left and right), while the lead was out. But also live, Todd picks up the actual guitar solo, so this is a conglomeration of parts.

The rhythm guitar plays the main groove of the song. I have it indicated as “downstrokes on quarter notes,” but this is more of a guideline, as it looks like Todd does downstrokes on 8th notes a lot too.

Strum/Ukulele
There isn’t an acoustic strum part in this song, so a very simple part was made up.

Bass
A nice bass guitar part with lots of mutes to keep it percussive as well.
