Transcribing Notes From John Neil (Head Transcriber)
Hysteria – Muse – Song Breakdown
Keyboard
The only keyboard I hear in this song is vocoder that goes along with the vocals in the choruses. There is also a possible mono synth doubling the bass line, making it sound sharper. I have his part doing these things, dividing the bass line between both hands, being jumpy as it is. The exception is in the choruses where only the left hands is doing the bass, it’s simplified a bit.

Rhythm/Lead Guitar
For a lot of the song, the lead and rhythm guitars are similar, as they play basically the same rhythm part doubled left and right in the stereo spectrum. One exception is verse 2 where the lead guitar doubles the bass part, and another is the guitar solo, where the lead guitar picks that up. Then in the last chorus the lead guitar keeps going with more solo type stuff, until they both meet again in the outro. You’ll want a very blatant distorted tone for both guitars.

Strum Guitar
There isn’t a strum guitar part in this song, so a part was made up that will keep the strummers busy.

Bass Guitar
A very busy bass part, that plays some main riffs of the song. Most of it is constant 16th notes played with the fingers. The chorus sections have a more funky sort of part. It’s all played through what sounds like a combination of normal signal and distortion.
