Transcribing Notes From John Neil (Head Transcriber)
Last Night – Morgan Wallen – Song Breakdown
Melody
A nice country pop song with elements of R&B thrown in. The melody and progression move like an endless circle, sort of how the subject matter is something that’s happened over and over again. The vocal range is C#3-D#4.

Keyboard
There is what sounds like a flute like pad (or Mellotron) that starts later in the song, which is blended in with the guitars so that it serves more like glue than an actual part. I did something similar to this, along with a piano part that mostly doubles the rhythm guitar part.

Lead Guitar
This is the slide electric guitar part, which comes in on the left and right sides. Some of it is blended way back in there, but some is more prominent. There are lots of fade ins as well.

Rhythm Guitar
This is the repeating acoustic guitar line, which basically does the same thing throughout the song, so once you’ve mastered 4 bars, you’ve mastered the song.

Strum Guitar
There isn’t really an acoustic strum part in this song, so a part was made up, which consists of basic chords and rhythms, so a good beginner’s song to learn.

Bass
A low 5 string bass part (with an optional “Alt Bass Guitar” adapted for 4 string). Lots of syncopated notes that lock up with bass drum hits.
