Transcribing Notes From John Neil (Head Transcriber)
Last Night – Morgan Wallen – Song Breakdown
Melody
A song inspired by Meghan Trainor’s conflicts with her record label. The vocal range is F3-D5.

Keyboard
I have the keyboard doing the punchy bass sound, the piano staccato parts, and the organ. There are some octave shifts in organ parts so that it can be played on the same keyboard as the piano (or correct octave if on multiple keyboards).

Lead Guitar
The only guitar I hear starts at verse 2 with the octave guitar which later turns into high triad strumming (which I gave to rhythm guitar). For the lead, I have it doubling the staccato bass part with palm mute notes, and also have it doing the low sax part with distorted guitar. For that reason, I have it at a drop D tuning to cover the low notes.

Rhythm Guitar
This part covers the guitar I can hear of the song – the octaves starting at verse 2, then the triads starting at the chorus after that. For the rest of the song I have it mute strumming the clapping percussion.

Strum Guitar
There isn’t a strum guitar in this recording, so a part was made up for the strummers out there.

Bass
The punchy bass part, which sustains more for some of the time. Tuned to drop D to hit the low notes.
